Call Dan At 239-872-2327  Estimates or Service    A word about slat replacement Prior to 2003, which  would be before the new  codes, many companies  used shutter slat which  was made from PVC.  While PVC when new,  was probably the  smoothest operating slat  in existence, many people  are now having problems  with this type of slat  constantly breaking. This  is particularly true of any  shutter over 9’ in width or  8’ in height,  PVC tends to  lose strength as years  pass. Many people with  shutters outside of these  guidelines may have had  trouble within the first few  years. Prior to  municipalities adopting  the 2003 codes, shutter  companies could make  the claim that any of their  products were “Hurricane”  products. PVC slat is now  considered a “Sun and  Shade” product, meaning  that no one can legally  sell it to a customer and  claim that it is a Hurricane  product. All Hurricane  products must now go  through rigorous testing to  meet the new impact  codes. However there are  alternatives to totally  replacing your  troublesome PVC shutters  (which you probably  remember spending a lot  of money on).        (continued on right side) If you are satisfied with  the protection factor of the  PVC shutters, an  alternative is an Aluminum  foam filled slat which  provides the same  protection (considered  Sun and Shade product),  but will end your breaking  problems as the slat is  Aluminum not plastic. This  is the most economical  solution to constantly  breaking PVC and these  slat look great for years.  While I will not try to imply  that these slat are  hurricane rated in any  way, I can speak from  experience after  Hurricane Charley. Most  PVC and Foam Filled  Aluminum slats held up  very well during the storm,  with one exception, those  that chose not to put their  Storm Bars into position,  saw the shutters simply  blow in.  Another more expensive  (but much less than a total  replacement) solution is to  upgrade your system to  extruded Aluminum  impact rated slat. This  usually involves changing  motors as extruded slats  are much heavier than  PVC. Your existing  shutters can also be  converted into an End  Retention system by also  changing the tracks out.  For any of these  conversions I can promise  the best price and  exceptional quality - just  call the number at left.
