Copyright 2010 StormShutterServices.comHurricane Screen or Fabric is a relatively new typeof storm protection. Made from what is commonlyknown as Trampoline fabric, it is polypropylenethreads woven into sheets. A misconception is thatit is made from Kevlar, although there may becertain brands that contain some Kevlar threadswoven in, a Hurricane screen made of pure Kevlar would be veryexpensive. All of these products go through rigorous testing andthey pass without using Kevlar. Made as a 95% weave, HurricaneFabric allows 5% of wind, rain and light to passthrough. This means that 150 MPH Hurricane forcewinds are reduced to a 7.5 MPH breeze. Whiledeployed, one cannot see into a structure, but cansee out. Hurricane fabric as recommended by themanufacturer, should not be exposed to directsunlight for more than 30 days a year. This fact canbe a determent for those who would like to leaveHurricane protection deployed as they travel awayfrom home or leave after season. $10 per sq. ft.
