Slat ReplacementSlat are the components of a Hurricane Shutter that do all the work of protecting your homefrom the elements. Prior to 2003, before the new codes were in place, many companies usedshutter slat made from PVC or Polyvinyl chloride (plastic). While PVC when new, was probablythe smoothest operating slat in existence. Many people are now having problems with this typeof slat constantly breaking. This is particularly true of any shutter that is over 9’ in width or 8’ inheight. PVC loses its strength as years pass but many people with shutters outside of theseguidelines may have had trouble within the first few years. Prior to municipalities adopting thenew codes, shutter companies were free to call any of their products “Hurricane” resistant. PVCis now considered a “Sun and Shade” product. Meaning that it cannot be sold as Hurricaneprotection. All Hurricane products must now go through rigorous testing to be approved asStorm protection. If you are having problems with PVC slat that is breaking, there arealternatives to full replacement of the entire product. Aluminum foam filled slat is one, if you aresatisfied with the protection that your PVC has provided over the years, this slat is rated thesame but will not break and separate like PVC does and will look great for years to come. Whilewe will not try to imply that these slat are Hurricane rated in any way, we can speak from theexperience of doing repairs after Hurricane Charley hit Punta Gorda. Most PVC and foam filledaluminum slats held up very well during the storm, with one exception, those that chose not toput their storm bars into position saw their shutters simply blow out of the tracks. Another, moreexpensive, solution is to upgrade your system to impact rated extruded aluminum slats. This willusually involve changing motors as extruded aluminum is much heavier than PVC or foam filledAluminum. Your existing system can also be upgraded to an End Retention system by alsochanging tracks. For any of these conversions we can promise the best price and exceptionalquality.close X

Welcome to Xterior Shutter Systems website!Thank you for visiting,we would like to take this opportunity to say a few words about our industry. We have all suffered through some tough ecomomic times recently, we have seen prices continually go up and wages go nowhere or jobs eliminated. We as a Company have seen Aluminum prices rise 20% in the last year but have held our prices to you the consumer steady. If you are visiting this site, more than likely you are in the market for Storm Protection. The fact of the matter is that Storm Protection is expensive and you may be asking yourself “how do I decide on a Company?” Throughout our lifetimes we have heard the phrase “do not hire the guy with the lowest price” while in many instances this can be true, you should not necessarily hire the Company with the highest price either. So how do you decide? Well it is going to require some homework by you. First and foremost make sure that whoever you hire is Licensed and Insured for the scope of work you are considering. Ask for references and follow up on them. Check with the Better Business Bureau. Do not let yourself be pressured by fast talking salesmen, take some time to consider your decision. Be careful of Companies offering low balling fire sales, a Company who runs too many fire sales is going to burn itself and you along with it. Many Companies who set their sights on volume will be lacking in the quality department. Our industry as it sits, is comprised of Companies who sell to the Consumer and Companies who sell Material and/or Fabricate finished goods to sell Wholesale to us. We are in the first group and we buy our Material from among the same 4 or 5 available Wholesalers as all other Companies and we do our own Fabrication. With all Companies buying from the same few Wholesale Manufacturers what differentiates one Company from another? The answer is simple, it is the Quality of the installation and the precision of the Fabrication that is key. If you give us a call for a free Estimate, you will probably find that we are neither the cheapest or the most expensive. What you will find, if you hire us for your Storm Protection, is that you will get the highest quality job available at any price. We as a Company have had virtually zero call backs for workmanship and we intend to keep it that way.Thank you and good luck with your buying decision.
